Homes of Polish immigrants featured walls filled with pictures of their families, Polish organizations, festivities, parades, wall blessings, historical and religious paintings and prints etc. The majority of immigrants did not bring many items with them when they emigrated so most of the items were acquired after they arrived and settled. Immigrants were very thrifty and found ways to reuse items, such as the flour bag shirt (ask us what that means) from the 1930s.

 

On display are also a collection of artifacts from the Polish Pavilion at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York, a wedding dress and bands, as well as a collection of household items which include a kielbasa maker, cheese press and a bee smoker from 1874.
