Acquisition Policy

The Polish Center benefits greatly from members, collectors and donors who pass cherished pieces along to the museum for care, preservation, and exhibition. The Polish Center recognizes those who generously help develop it’s collections by donating artifacts or contributing acquisition funds.

Realizing the sense of ownership that comes with entrusting items to the museum, the Polish Center has many ways to stay connected well beyond the donation date, such as invitations to special events, customized benefits, and ongoing relationships with the its curatorial staff.
Polish Center curators consult with prospective donors to ensure the items complement its collection. Gifts can be outright, partial, or promised.

Acceptance of an object or document into the Center's collection must align with its mission to share and preserve the culture, history, and heritage of Poland, Polish immigration, and people of Polish descent.
Those evaluating a proposed donation must, to the best of their ability, consider its aesthetic, cultural, and historical significance and provenance. All incoming objects and documents must be thoroughly examined, documented, and assessed for display, storage, and conservation
requirements.
Evaluators must gather and record as much information as possible about the proposed donation,
including but not limited to the following:
