THE HISTORY OF AMBER

A presentation prepared by Polgold Jewelers about the history of Amber. This stone, once believed to be made of captured rays of the sun, is as essential to the Polish cultural landscape as are multi-colored country skirts, storks and mushrooms. Amber is a remarkable product of trees that once covered the Baltic Sea some 40-50 million years ago. If you are as fascinated by Amber, as the ancient Romans who ventured through Poland to acquire it for its curative properties–among other things–do not miss this presentation and exhibit.

October 6–26 (except holidays)
1:30 pm - 5:00 pm Tues., Wed, Thurs.
1:30 pm - 4 pm Sunday

Also by appointment (please call the Polish Center at 413–265–2451 for information).
Admission free / Open to the general public.

AN EXHIBIT FROM OUR COLLECTIONS
Borgia Gallery/Second floor of the Mary Dooley Center

This exhibit provides visitors with an opportunity to see some of the wonderful materials we have acquired but are not always on view in the Polish Center. As our Polish Center grows and begins to collect more aggressively objects that represent the history of the material culture of the Polish people in New England, we wish to encourage our many friends to continue helping us in our collecting mission. This exhibit will also provide potential donors with a better understanding of the sort of materials we are searching for.

Friday, October 22* 6:30 pm
Dining Room / Mary Dooley Center.
